Alamos, Mexico, is known as 'The City of Arches.' I have painted them a lot. In Alamos, Bougainvilleas are planted at their base and have flourished for many years. The Mexicans trim them to form a semi arch as they grow. Together, the arches, Bougainvilleas and potted plants form a combination of beauty I have not seen anywhere but in Alamos. The constantly changing light creates patterns that are wonderful to paint. Being under the arches in the portal gives a very different perspective to them than being on the outside painting the arches and portal. Under the arches in Alamos is literally a shelter from the storm.
